Catholic’s Jankowski to Majors

Travis Jankowski, Lancaster Catholic 2008 graduate and a supplemental first round pick by the Padres in the 2012 MLB draft who signed for one million dollars, is going to the major leagues today. The Padres are bringing him up from AAA.

Jankowski was noticed by major league scouts when he won MVP Honors in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2011. The next season Jankowski led the NCAA Division One in hits, runs and triples while helping Stoney Brook to a berth in the 2012 NCAA College World Series.

Here are his minor league stats for the Padres affiliates:

The Padres will also promote touted center field prospect Travis Jankowski from Triple-A on Wednesday to take Venable’s roster spot.

Moving Venable opened up an outfield spot for Jankowski, who hit .335/.413/425 with 32 stolen bases in 97 games between Double-A and Triple-A this year.
Jankowski, 24, is ranked the Padres No. 5 prospect by MLB.com.

“I do think we’re not going to want him come up and just sit on the bench,” Preller said. “Based on the reports and the skill set he brings he’s going to get some opportunity here in the next six weeks.”
