They won the L-L League Title. They won the District 3, Class 4A Title. They do however come up short against West Philadelphia in the opening round of PIAA Class 4A state championship playoffs and the dream season comes to an end. The final score of the final game played this year is 78-65.
The Crusaders led early but late first half turnovers helped the Speedboys gain a lead at halftime, that they would never relinquish.
In front of a packed partisan crowd at Warwick High School, the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders (24-5) could have won this game. West Philadelphia (13-4) was a bit faster and could nail three point plays seemingly at will but this was a beatable team. And most everyone in the room expected Catholic to once again come back from being down as much as 21 points late in the 3rd quarter. That was their hallmark trait they exhibited throughout the playoff season.
In fact, Catholic scratched and clawed their way back to within single digits in the 4th quarter. But it was not enough.
The Speedboys’ Latrell Carroll’s 24 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and four assists plus West Philly’s dominant defensive rebounding was the difference.
West Philadelphia: Carroll 24, Coates 15, Shackelford 14, Brown 12, Lorenzano 11, Harrison 2
Lancaster Catholic: Bomberger 20, Ware, 13, Landis 12, Wenger 8, Cannon 6, Van Tash 4, Downey 2
