Catholic’s amazing season ends

The Lancaster Catholic Crusaders’ run for a state championship has ended with a 6-4 defeat by Loyalsock Township Thursday in the quarterfinal PIAA Class 3A baseball tournament.

Tyler Peters had 3 hits and Brayden Clair ripped a homer run to left but it was not enough to overcome Loyalsock’s three first-inning runs.

With their ace Dillon Marsh on the mound, the District 4 champion Loyalsock put its first three runners on base. An RBI single, a sacrifice fly and another single and they led 3-0.

One and done is always tough. But what a season the Crusaders (21-6) have had. They won the Section 4 title, the L-L League championship, the District 3, Class 3A title and finished with a run to the quarterfinals in PIAA playoffs. They are the only Catholic baseball team to win both the L-L League and District 3 titles in the same year.

The good news is most of the team returns next year.

Crusaders’ Head Coach Ty Book said it best, “I can’t tell you how proud I am of these guys. We’re excited about things to come, but we’re going to take the time here for the next couple of days and reflect on how great this has been and how excited we are about what we accomplished this year.”
