Cedar Crest High School grad Derek Fisher had his minor league contract purchased by the Houston Astros. Fisher is an outfielder on the Astro’s Triple-A Fresno team. He should get a nice run of starts in right field while Josh Reddick recovers from a concussion, and the 23-year-old might be able to steal playing time from Nori Aoki if he gets off to a hot start. Fisher, a top-100 prospect according to MLB.com, was flourishing to the tune of a .335/.401/.608 batting line with 16 home runs, 45 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and 42 runs scored in 60 games this season at the Triple-A level.
Fisher’s call-up to the majors last week was his first and the first by a Lebanon County resident in 70 years, and just the sixth overall by one of Lebanon’s own, in the century-long history of Major League Baseball.
