What a season for the Streaks. Here’s the report after they won the District Title.
The Manheim Township Streaks have won the District 3, Class 6A football title tonight after beating Cumberland Valley 24-21 at Hersheypark Stadium. This is their first District 3 football title in school history.
This was a classic game between two powerhouse District 3 teams. The fans were into it. And it was everything a championship game should be. Both teams came to play and neither ever gave up.
Yet two fourth quarter Cumberland Valley TDs were not enough to overcome a resilient Streaks team.
Two plays were critical for the Streaks’ win. Rece Bender grabbed a ball batted by Grayson Sallade on the CV 3-yard line late in the fourth quarter for an interception that kept the Eagles off the board.
The other play was on Cumberland Valley’s onside kick, which quarterback Luke Emge recovered with 1:22 left to grab the District 3 title.
All night long you saw Sallade, Benjamin, Ridley, Roman and Emge grinding out the extra yard, giving the play a second and third effort. “Yards after contact” summarizes this game. Emge threw for 149 yards and ran for 28 while scoring two touchdowns. Grayson Sallade was tireless running for 149 yards and a touchdown that kept the Streaks ahead for good in the fourth quarter.
Those offensive efforts allowed Township to convert four fourth downs. And their defense held CV to only 96 yards rushing.
Enjoy the highlights and you will see that determination.
Next up for the Blue Streaks (12-1), the WPIAL champion Pine-Richland (14-0) in next Saturday’s PIAA Class 6A semifinal at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
