In his final race for the McCaskey High School Track Team, Nathan Henderson saved his best for last, in what can really only be described as an extraordinary high school career.
Henderson blew past Carlyle’s Sam Affolder in the final strides to win the PIAA 3A 3200-meter run at Shippensburg University on Saturday. Henderson’s time of 9:01.77 is a new personal best. One of the fastest winning times in state history.
“This is kind of a perfect ending, in a sense,” Henderson said. “Just winning is a great thing.”
In his last two season’s Henderson lost out for medals by one position. A fact that was not lost on the crowd, who surged with cheers as Henderson put it into an extra gear to win.
