Quarterfinals District3, Class 4A: It was close.
The defending District 3, Class A champion Lancaster Catholic Crusaders actually took the lead with 30 seconds left in the game after Denzel Kabasele drained a three pointer and then stuffed a layup to add 5 points in the final minute. But Bishop McDevitt’s Davon Lee nailed a 3-pointer and the lead for good.
Bishop McDevitt stays alive with the 47-43 upset victory. They overcame an early 13-8 deficit with a 28-17 run in the second and third quarters. With the win in the battle of the Crusaders, ninth-seeded McDevitt will advance to a semi-final show down against fourth-seeded Kennard-Dale on Monday, February 26th at 8 p.m. at Penn Manor High School.
The trio of Davon Lee, Ben Marsico, and Tarajae Davis led the McDevitt Crusaders (13-11) offensively as each player reached double figures. Lee finished with a game-high 16 points, while Marsico and Davis each chipped in 10 points.
Lancaster Catholic (22-4) had a pair of double digit scorers as well. Dwayne Caine led the Crusaders with 11 points, while R.J. Van Tash tallied 10 points in the loss. The team will next make a 6 p.m. start Monday at East Pennsboro against Littlestown in the first of two potential consolation games needed to reach the state tournament.
