It was still cold out today. But winning and especially beating Section One rival Manheim Township 8-3, must have made everyone on the Hempfield Black Knights’ squad feel a bit warmer.
Behind the pitching Justin Lichtenwalner, who struck out 9 batters, the Black Knights held the Streaks to just six hits.
A big 4th inning put the game away for the Black Knights. CJ Saylor drove in the third run of the game with a check swing single to right. Then Cole Hauser doubled down the left field line for 2 more Black Knight runs. Hauser eventually scored the 3rd run of the inning on a passed ball by Township’s SP Nick Kurtz.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Seth Constein ripped a double over the left fielder’s head and Hemfpfield was in scoring positin again. Cole Hauser followed with a sac fly for the 7th Hempfield run of the game. Ty Vaughn singled up the middle and Hempfield led 8-0 at the end of 5 innings.
