Mackenzie Horn sets new meet record

I don’t cover as much track and field events as I’d like to. Partly because I don’t know all that much about it. But I’m learning.

For example, the best pole vaulters in a meet, do not even vault until the bar is set at 11′.

Today, at the LL League championship meet, Manehim Townships’ Mackenzie Horn didn’t jump until the bar was set at 12′. Which she cleared. Then she vaulted 12’6″ and finally 13′ for a new LL League Championship track meet record. She beat the 12’8″ record held by Erin Winters.

“I was definitely excited,” said Horn, who also posted the second-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles trials (14.85) to qualify for Saturday’s finals, “since it’s my second meet in a row clearing 13.”

Video highlights include 2nd place Carena Nottoli and 3rd place Sydney Horn’s vaults.
