For the first time in the school’s history, the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders are going to the 3A, PIAA State Baseball Finals to be held at Penn State after defeating the Montoursville Warriors 7-2.
They will be playing the South Side Beavers from District Seven on Friday for the title.
Behind Dylan Marsh’s sterling 5 inning relief pitching effort and a 3-hit 4-RBI night for Nick Bresnak, Catholic’s starting pitcher, they rallied for 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead on Breznak’s bases clearing triple.
The game was a lot closer than the score indicates.
Montoursville took an early 1-0 lead thanks a Camerin Woods’ second inning home run.
Nick Breznak started for the Crusaders and after 2 innings, Coach Book went to the bullpen for Dylan Marsh. Breznak had given up 4 hits with one walk and 5 k’s.
Marsh walked his first batter, then struck out the side in the bottom of the third.
Monstoursville took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
But Nick Breznak’s bases clearing triple in the top of the fifth was all they would need to win the game. The ball appeared to be lost in the lights by the right fielder and it became the game winning RBI hit.
Dillon Marsh allowed just two hits and one run over five innings, striking out nine. Marsh won his 8th game on the season.
The 19-5 Crusaders, are one win away from winning the L-L League Section Four Title, the 3A, District Three Title and 3A, State Title.
