Elco could win 1st title in 22 years

Looking back 22 years to when the Elco Raiders last won a won a Section Title is hard to believe. But now the Raiders are now close to capturing one.

On Wednesday the Raiders defeated the two-time defending Section 3 champ Annville-Cleona 1-0.

Anya Kissinger scored off an assist from Abbie Keath with 1:24 left in the first half.

Elco’s record in Section 3 is now 13-1-1 heading into Friday’s section finale at Lancaster Country Day, while A-C fell to 13-2 ahead of Friday’s clash with another county rival, Northern Lebanon.

A win or an A-C loss Friday will give the Raiders the section crown and end the lengthy title drought. So there is still work for Elco to do. But that doesn’t take any shine off of Wednesday’s triumph, which came on Senior Day when emotions were already running high. Prior to the game, Elco honored its five seniors, Keath, Julia Angstadt, Hayley Smith, Alicia Yoh and Cherish Weaver.
