Hempfield returning to L-L finals

The Hempfield Black Knights are returning to the L-L League finals after defeating the Ephrata Mountaineers 5 to 1 in last night’s semifinals game played at Ephrata War Memorial Field. They will play Anvil-Cleona who defeated Northern Lebanon 5 to 4 in their semifinal matchup. And while the Black Knights, the Section 1 runner up, are returning with unfinished business after losing last year to Lancaster Catholic in the finals, this will mark the first time A-C, the Section 4 winner, returns to the finals since 1981. And this is also the third year in a row that a Section 4 team is returning to the finals.

This was a very close game with great fielding and few opportunities for scoring until the top of the 7th when Hempfield put 4 runs on the board to take the lead for good. Michael Hernandez ripped an RBI double to left center field giving the Knights a 2-1 lead. Jon Peterson hit a two-run single later in the inning to make the score 5-1. Enjoy the video highlights. Hempfield’s Alec Miller struck out seven, walked four and allowed eight hits for the complete game win.
