The Pioneers of Lampeter-Strasburg have defeated the Donegal Indians 7 to 5 to capture the 2014 L-L League Softball Championship. Donegal (19-3) scored in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead but LS tied it in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly by Sarah Braungard. She also added 3 more RBIs with a second inning bases clearing triple giving LS a commanding 6 to 1 early lead. The Pioneers (21-1) only loss came earlier in the year against Donegal.
In the top of the second, L-S shortstop Amber Schreder made a great diving catch of a looping liner by Kaitlyn Witmer that stunned everyone and seemed to take the steam out of Donegal’s early offensive attack. Jordan Weaver came on in relief for LS late in the game and slammed the door shut on a Donegal rally to seal the victory.
