Donegal wins in dramatic comeback

District 3 Play: When you win back-to-back District 3 titles, you learn that you never, ever give up. Or you go home early.

And that was certainly the case today, as the Donegal Indians clawed their way back from an 8-2 deficit, against a home run hitting Daniel Boone squad.

With their career school winning record holder Makyla Yoder on the mound, it was surprising to see Daniel Boone up 8-2 after 4 innings. But that’s softball.

Yes the wind was blowing out. But these Boone hitters came to play and slam the ball they did. They hit 3 home runs that would have been homers even if they were hit into the wind.

In relief, Sierra Neiss came on for Donegal and she simply slammed the door shut. And threw away the key. No more runs for the Blazers.

She also did some serious damage at the plate driving in 2 RBIs in the 5th inning that brought Donegal back from the cliff they were hanging on to.

A heads up running play by Emily Graham enabled her to score from second on a Savanna Kolenda single that brought the Indians within one run.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Rachel Robinson got hit by a pitch. Then McKenna Berg layed down the perfect bunt that got by the Blazers third base player and then everything went haywire.

The Blazer pitcher Hall, scooped it and threw to second but it ended up in the outfield. Rachel Robinson came scampering home with the tying run.

Up stepped Savanna Kolenda who promptly ripped a fast ball down the left field line and Berg, the game wining runner, crossed the plate.

Donegal will play Cedar Cliff on May 30th. With this win today, they will also play in the state PIAA tournament.
