Solanco wins 1st round PIAA game 5-0

Hanna Phillips threw a one-hit shutout today as Solanco defeated Bishop Shanahan 5-0, in their opening round game in the Class 5A PIAA softball playoffs.

This game matched up the Co-Lancaster Lebanon League Champion’s starting pitcher with a 20-2 record and 1.45 ERA and 193 strike outs in 135.1 innings with an Eagles’ (18-6) team that fielded the 2018 Softball Player of the Year, starting pitcher Devon Miller. Miller came into the game having thrown 12 shutouts this season, including 5-no-hitters and 4 one-hitters. Her ERA was 1.20 before the game with 291 strike outs.

The Mares’ (23-2) Hanna Phillips struck out 8 while walking one. Eagles’ Miller struck out 12, while walking none. But she gave up 4 hits, 3 to Hanna Phillips. And 5 runs.

All the runs Solanco scored were unearned as Bishop Shanahan committed 4 errors.

Solanco moves on to the quarterfinals game Thursday at Allentown, where they will play Pittston Area High School.

Solanco’s 23rd win is the most ever in their softball history. The team has a team batting average of .309 this season. Kara McKlune leads the team with a .350 batting average.

She had a single and triple today with 2 RBIs.

PIAA Brackets: Interesting to note….if L-S and Solanco win their next game, they will play each other and guarantee an L-L team in the finals.
