The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers will meet the Solanco Mares in the PIAA Class 5A semifinal game on Monday, June 11th at 6PM at Millersville U. Which means that an L-L League team will be in the finals again.
The SOLANCO STORY:
Solanco’s Hanna Phillips was in her groove again.
By effectively mixing and moving her pitches, the hard-throwing junior struck out 14 and allowed only two hits as the Golden Mares blanked Pittston Area 1-0 in a PIAA Class 5A quarterfinal on Thursday night at Patriots Park.
The Mares (24-2) gave Phillips all the offense she needed in the bottom of the first. Kara McCune bounced a lead-off single to left, Randi Rambo followed with a flare hit to right and Liz Mowrer delivered a RBI double that plopped directly on the left-field line.
Pittston Area’s Alexa McHugh just missed a home run in the fourth inning.
Phillips struck out six straight at one point and struck out the side in order in both the second and fifth innings against a team that had combined for 23 runs in its previous two playoff outings.
“Just pounding the zone in and out and up and down,’’ Phillips said, shrugging her shoulders after hurling her second state tournament shutout in three days.
Video highlight for Solanco is Hanna Phillips getting her 500th strike out during the season.

The Pioneers Story:
The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers (21-5) defeated Archbishop Ryan 8-2 today.
Right from the start the Pioneers were clicking.
A Summer Peters’ one-out single, a Hanna Garber double and a Brynne Baker 2 RBI single followed by a wild pitch and a Cam Byler sacrifice proved to be all the Pioneers would need as they took 4-0 lead.
