SWS wins 73rd Midget LNP Tourney

The SWS Pioneers defeated the Lititz Oddfellows tonight 5-0 to win the 73rd LNP Midget Baseball Championship. Due to a Thursday rainout at Clipper Stadium the game was played at Millersville University.

The Pioneers’ Bradeon Karpathios threw a 3-hit shutout leaving Lititz with 25-1-1 record throughout the summer league and playoffs.

Lead off hitter Josh Farina for the Oddfellows had two of those hits. He hit a lead off triple in the bottom of the first inning. But he was stranded after Karpathios retired the next 3 batters.

The game was scoreless until the 6th inning.

Lots of great defensive gems kept the game that way.

In the top of the 5th inning, SWS’ Tom Shockey was nailed at the plate trying to score off of a Josh Cunningham single, as left fielder Josh Farina threw a strike to Oddfellows’ catcher Zach Shertzer. It’s in the video highlights.

Later in the 5th inning Oddfellows’ Colin Brubaker made a stunning over the head catch of deep fly ball, off of Conor Blantz’s bat to save at least one or two runs.

The game was called after two rain delays in the top of the 7th inning.

This is the second LNP title for the Pioneers (18-3) who last won in 2014. Lititz won last year and that game can be seen on this website.
