Dougherty’s Pin Gives Barons Title

For the second year in a row, the Manheim Central Barons are the wrestling champions of the L-L League.

They did so by defeating Northern Lebanon 184.5 to 183.5 at Garden Spot High School this afternoon.

Going into the final match of the playoffs, Northern Lebanon led by 5 points.

However, Tyler Dougherty pinned Zach Shelley of Lampeter-Strasburg in the second period for a win that included bonus points. Which put the Barons over the top for the title.

“Coming into today it didn’t look like we had a shot,” said Barons’ Head Coach Billy Cunningham. “We were down numbers wise with only six guys on the podium. But we got the bonus points.”

The Barons had 20 pins in the tournament.

These are the schools with wrestlers representing them going into the finals:

Manheim Central-4
Northern Lebanon-3
Penn Manor-2
Manheim Township-2
Ephrata, Donegal, Warwick, GS, Lebanon, AC, PV-1 wrestler
