The two best teams in PIAA 5A, Twin Valley and Lampeter-Strasburg went at it today at L-S High School. Both came into the game with undefeated records.
The last time the Pioneers faced the Raiders was in the 2018 District 3 title game where L-S fell short 10-6.
Today was a chance for some revenge and the Pioneers did not let down for a moment during their 4-2 win.
While Twin Valley collected ten hits, the Pioneers’ sterling defense kept the Raiders in check.
A stunning catch by Julz Garber because of the consequences if not made and difficulty for the 3rd out of the 6th inning prevented two runners from scoring. Which would have tied the game.
Summer Peters made easy work on a fly ball destined to become an RBI triple in first inning but instead ended up killing the Raiders’ rally.
The Raiders scored first in the first inning on a Grace Marsalo RBI single.
Lampeter-Strasburg took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning when Summer Peters singled on the first pitch scoring one run and Chloe Blantz doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Peters led all hitters with a four for four day and 2 RBIs. She tied the game and put the Pioneers ahead with hits.
Brynne Baker got the start for Lampeter-Strasburg. She allowed ten hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three.
Sofia Palyan was on the rubber for Raiders. She lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out nine. Marsalo threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Marsalo, Alivia Lichtner, and Sam Phillips each managed multiple hits for the Raiders. Marsalo went 3-for-4.
Lampeter-Strasburg racked up nine hits on the day. Summer Peters and Julz Garber had multiple hits for Lampeter-Strasburg.
These two teams have a very good chance of meeting up again in the payoffs. It was nice to see them in action again.
