The Hempfield Black Knights (7-2, 11-2 overall) made it a close contest by scoring 3 goals at the end of the third quarter. Then another 2 goals at the start of the 4th quarter to close the Manheim Township Streaks’ lead to just one goal.
Freshman goalie Tyler Moritzen stopped a Black Knight goal with 55 seconds remaining. That was the big play of the evening.
Township’s Eddie Newman scored one last goal for the Streaks with 11 seconds remaining for the 12-10 final score.
Township (9-0, 13-1 overall) wins the Section One title with this win.
The Streaks are aptly named as they have now won 105 in a row in L-L League competition. A streak that dates back to 2010.
Hempfield is only the second team this year to score double digits goals against Township.
Just a reminder, the Streaks are the reigning L-L League, District 3 and PIAA champions.
