Semifinals L-L League Playoffs: If you are going to defeat the undefeated Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers and the defending 2018 PIAA champions you can’t make any mistakes.
Today after taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Penn Manor Comets allowed 3 Pioneers’ runners to get on base because of sloppy defense in the bottom of the first inning. Three errors led to a 5-run rally that easily could have been just one run.
After that blustery first inning both starting pitchers settled down and it became a pitching duel through four innings.
In the top of the 5th inning, Emma Grambling, the Comets’ catcher ripped a fastball over the left field fence and the Pioneers’ lead was down to 5-3.
The Comets closed it to 5-4 game in the 6th inning but that was as close as they would get.
Comets’ starter Bella Peters held the Pioneers to just 4 hits while striking out 5.
Brynne Baker was the winning pitcher, striking out 2 while giving up just 5 hits.
The Pioneers will play Elizabethtown, who defeated Warwick in the other semifinal game for the L-L League title. The game will be played Thursday evening at 5 P.M. at Millersville U’s Seaber Stadium.
