Pioneers are L-L Baseball Champs!

Dylan Byler pitched a 2-hit shutout against the Hempfield Black Knights to help lead the Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers to their first L-L League title since 1994. The year in which Dylan Byler’s dad played on that team.

That makes 22 consecutive innings without a run allowed for the Pioneers’ pitching staff. Not a bad place to be with the District 3 games set to begin next week.

The Black Knights (19-4) started the top of the first inning with Cole Hauser reaching on a fielder’s choice then getting to third base after stealing two bases.

But he was stranded and that was as close as Hempfield would get to scoring a run.

The Pioneers (20-2) scored three runs in the their half of the first inning on an RBI single by Connor Blantz and a two-run single by Dereck Eckman.

For 5 innings Byler was throwing a no-hitter using his slider which was devastating and fastball, curve ball combos.

Hempfield’s starting pitcher Justin Lichtenwalner pitched a good game too. He allowed only 5 hits with no walks. On most mights if you give up just 3 runs you win.
Not tonight though.

In fact the game flew by in just under an hour and 15 minutes such was the dominant pitching at Ephrata War Memorial Field.

Enjoy the highlights.
