No Video Highlights: Pequea Valley and Conrad Weiser both made historic runs during the boys team tennis post-season, culminating in Pequea Valley’s 3-2 triumph over Conrad Weiser in the finals of the PIAA Class 2A Boys Team Tennis Championships.
Neither school had qualified for the PIAA Boys Team Championships prior to this year, let alone win a match in the state championships. In fact, Pequea Valley had one just District III match and Conrad Weiser none prior to this year’s postseason.
Pequea Valley won the match with a sweep of the singles matches by Brady Burns, Devon Clemmer and Hunter Winey. That offset two doubles wins by Conrad Weiser’s Kurt Abell / Fox Bryan and Jayden Lewis / Alex Waltz.
The Braves became just the third District III school to win a PIAA Boys Team Tennis title since PIAA inaugurated the championship in 2000-2001. Dallastown won the 2004 Class 3A championship while Wyomissing won Class 2A championships in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018.

Pequea Valley defeated Conrad Weiser in the District III 2A semifinals on May 7, also by a 3-2 score. In that match, the end results of each position were the same for No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. But Moyer had beaten Winey in No. 3 singles and Gingerich and Heinrich had beaten Abell and Bryan.
Pequea Valley defeated perennial District I champion Lower Moreland 3-2 in the first round, then beat Quaker Valley 3-1 and Indiana 3-1 to reach the finals against Weiser. The Scouts, who qualified for states as the District III No. 3 team, defeated Bedford 4-1, Moravian Academy 3-1 and District III champion Lancaster Country Day 3-1 to reach the finals.
Our congratulations to Pequea Valley for becoming the first PIAA spring sports champion in 2018-2019 and to Conrad Weiser for reaching the PIAA finals.
