The Number Six seed Lancaster Country Day Cougars, defeated the Number 3 seed and defending District 3, Class 2A champion Trinity Shamrocks 13-12 at Eagle View Middle School on Tuesday night in the District 3 Class 2A boys lacrosse semifinals.
With 17.4 seconds left in regulation play, the Cougars freshman Fritz Mikos tied the match at 12-12.
Senior Noah Wolfe won it with a game winner in the first overtime period for the Cougars win.
The Shamrocks led 9-5 at halftime but the Cougars would not give up.
They clawed their way back into the match when the Shamrocks fell into a defensive strategy that did not work.
The Cougars took advantage of a string of three penalties before the end of the second quarter. One of those involved a high cross check penalty from Drew Zak that was locked in for two minutes. In that span the Cougars tallied two goals to make it 8-4 and started picking apart the Shamrocks’ defense.
Two more goals before the third-quarter buzzer put the Cougars within three, 12-9.
LCD then scored four unanswered goals, including one in OT, to punch its ticket to the title game.
With under 4:29 minutes to go, JP Jones put LCD within one to 12-11.
The Cougars will face Hershey (15-5) the number 4 seed, Thursday at 2PM at Central Dauphin Middle School in Landis Field in Speed Ebersole Stadium.
