PIAA Quarterfinals: Sierra Neiss threw a 5-hitter today, to lead the Donegal Indians past Bishop Shanahan 7-0 at Millersville University’s Seaber Field.
But early on it was Bishop’s Devon Miller who was mowing down hitters. She struck out the first 4 hitters she faced an 17 overall.
It was a scoreless duel into the sixth inning.
But in the bottom of the fifth the Eagles threatened with the bases loaded and 2 outs.
After two walks and a single loaded the bases, Hannah Keiper hit a shot that seemed destined to hit the left field fence. But Emma Miller chased it down and making a spectacular catch.
Three runs would have easily scored but Bishop Shanahan came up empty.
In the top of the sixth, Donegal’s Stephanie Reider drilled an 0-2 fastball over the left center field fence to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. That was the game winning RBI.
But that was just the beginning as Donegal scored 4 more runs in the inning, thanks to four more singles and a walk and a wild pitch.
Indians’ starting pitcher Neiss was dealing. She struck out 10 while walking 4 and giving up 5 hits.
Madeline Ghon led the Indians with 3 hits while scoring 2 runs. Summer Steffy had 2 hits.
