2019 L-L League Field Hockey Begins

The 2019 Field Hockey season began last Friday.

This season the league will miss seeing one of the best players in the USA with Donegal’s Mackensie Allessie graduating. She set national records in scoring. She now plays for the USA Field Hockey team while attending Ohio State U.

There is no question that Lancaster County teams represents the best of high school field hockey in the state. In fact Donegal won the 2018 PIAA state title by beating Palmyra last year.

In the past 5 seasons, L-L League field hockey teams have had 9 teams qualify for the District Three Tournament. During that period teams from the L-L League have won six District Three titles and four PIAA titles.

The league playoffs begin October 15th with doubleheaders at Donegal and Penn Manor. Semifinals will be October 17th and finals at Conestoga Valley October 19th.

Here is the report on Penn Manor’s 2018 L-L League championship match against Donegal which they won in OT 1-0.

Second Half Action Below:

The Final Minute:

On a perfect afternoon for field hockey at Conestoga Valley High School, the two best teams in the Lancaster-Lebanon League went head-to-head for the league title.

Penn Manor vs. the Donegal Indians. The Section One and Section Two champions.

It came down to the final minute of overtime as Donegal’s Mackenzie Allessie’s shot bounded off of the goal post. Then off of a corner shot, Junior Anna May Barbusca slammed in the winning goal as the Comets won another L-L League Title. This time by a 1-0 score.

More highlights and reporting will be added, I thought you would like to see the final moments of an amazing matchup.

Last year these two teams were ranked Number One and Two in the nation and this year they look equally as polished and talented.
