This was one heck of game and everyone involved from fan to player to coach knew this was going to be a battle. The two teams met last year and split the games. This one felt like a playoff game.
It was scoreless at the half. CentraL Dauphin’s defense was sterling. They blocked a field goal and stopped the Streaks in their tracks.
Cut to the 3rd quarter.
Township had the ball on the 7 yard line then had a second field goal attempt blocked. This time however Central Dauphins’ senior Malicah Bowman grabbed the ball from Nyeem Sims who blocked the kick and then ran 94 yards for the game’s first score. 7-0 Central takes the lead.
The Streaks would score all of their points in the 4th quarter.
QB Harrison Kirk guided the Blue Streaks on an eight-play, 70-yard drive with time ticking away at War Memorial Field, setting up a 27-yard Jackson Wright field goal that produced a 10-7 victory over the Rams.
In succession, Kirk hit three different receivers for 14, 23 and 32 yards, giving Wright the chance to play the hero with 1:06 remaining.
Wright’s boot was true, and MT slid to 3-0 and saddled Central Dauphin to its first 1-2 start since 2006.
Defense ruled the night, but Kirk’s poise and 285 passing yards ultimately weighed on the Mid-Penn Conference visitors. Kirk was 18 of 30 and capped MT’s lone touchdown drive just six minutes prior to Wright’s game winner.
