L-L League Quarterfinal action at Lancaster Catholic before a packed house tonight and this was a good one.
The Crusaders outlasted the McCaskey Red Tornados 63 to 57 in a back-and-forth battle that was determined in the last minute of play. There were twelve lead changes in this game.
At the end of the first quarter McCaskey led 15-10. At one point late in the third quarter Catholic was up by 11 points then McCaskey went on a run to take a 2 pint lead in the fourth.
There were 12 treys in the game that kept it close.
Late in the fourth quarter Crusaders seniors’ Trey Wells and Calan Titus went back-to-back with deep corner three point shots.
And then there was the blocked shot by Catholic at the top of the key that would have tied the game had McCaskey scored with a minute to play. It turned into a two point bucket for Catholic’s Nevin Roman.
McCaskey’s Makai Ortiz-Gray led all scoring with 21 points. Devin Artkinson led Catholic with 15 points.
Big plays very late in the fourth quarter gave the game to Catholic when Trey Wells and Calan Titus went back-back with deep corner three point shots.
Lancaster Catholic (12-1 L-L, 20-2 overall) is the Section Four winner and McCaskey (10-3 L-L, 15-8 overall) the Section One runner-up, a half game behind Cedar Crest.
Lancaster Catholic will play Warwick in the L-L League semifinals at Hempfield Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
McCaskey, the 8th ranked team in District 3, Class 6A will host the 9th ranked Chambersburg on February 18th in the opening round of District playoffs.
