The Cedar Crest Falcons have won the Lancaster Lebanon League Boys Basketball title by defeating the Warwick Warriors 45 to 41.
It was a battle between the Section One and Section Two champions.
Cedar Crest (22-3) won the way they have in so many games this season with defense.
Their head coach of ten years Tommy Smith, indoctrinates his players early on in their basketball careers. “We are man to man defense, no zone. You do it, or you don’t play.”
That formula has led Cedar Crest to win 10 games this season by six points or less.
This is the third league title under Tommy Smith, and first since 2015.
It wasn’t pretty with the Falcons turning the ball over 16 times and missing 15 free throws. And they only made 3 of 8 treys. But in the end they stood tall. Literally.
Tonight, the Falcons were led offensively and defensively by 6-8 senior Illeri Ayo-Faleye, who scored 16 points and used his incredible athleticism and 6’7″ frame to stop the Warriors time and again.
Their other 6’7′ player Jason Eberhart also did his due diligence under the basket denying Warwick several times.
The Warwick Warriors (19-5) were down by as many as ten points in the fourth quarter in which they missed 5 foul shots.
But a couple of treys put them back in the game with under a minute to play down by only 3. But they fell short. This was the second year in a row that Warwick played in the L-L League Title game.
District play is upon next for both teams.
