The undefeated Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers (22-0) are now officially the Lancaster-Lebanon Softball League champions. They defeated the Elizabethtown Bears 9-1 in the finals at Millersville Seaber Field today. Thus erasing any doubt as if anyone would have any. This is their 4th title and first since 2014.
Brynn Baker, the starting pitcher for the Pioneers, who usually pitches to contact had 6 strike outs with zero walks while giving up 6 hits. A hint of a rally in the third inning ended with 3 strikes out in a row. Same in the 6th inning with 2 k’s.
The Pioneers’ top three hitters in the order all had 2 hits. Julz Garber, Summer Peters, and Chloe Blantz. Summers had a double and triple driving in 3 runs. Gabby Drumm, who ripped a double off the right field fence, also had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. The pitcher they beat, the Bears’ Kristin Geesey had shutout Warwick and Donegal back-to-back to get to the finals. This was a good pitcher they beat.
All in all a fairly predictable offensive game for the Pioneers who bring the lumber when they play up and down the lineup.
Defensively this team is the best I have seen all year and it was on display today. Chloe Blantz (SS) and Emily Platt (3B) made two outstanding plays with runners on base to end innings. Centerfielder Summer Peters made routine plays out of long drives that many outfielders would have missed. Their catcher had zero problems with a tough pop-up behind the plate.
They are the Class 5A PIAA defending champions for a reason have lost only a couple of seniors from that team. It will be fun to watch them as they start District 3 play next week.
