Pioneers lose in state semifinal 39-35

PIAA Class 4A semifinals:

The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers were on the doorstep of making its first trip to a PIAA football state championship game.

But their nine win, one loss season is over.

In an instant-classic, high scoring game, this semifinal game was destined to be won by the team who held the ball last.

The lead changed 4 times.

The Jersey Shore Bulldogs scored the go-ahead TD with 9:14 to play, and two key takeaways in the second half sealed the win with a 39-35 win over the Pioneers.

What at a season it was for the Pioneers.

They won the L-L League Section Three and District 3, Class 4A titles.

L-S QB Sean McTaggart completed 24 of 47 passes for 476 yards with four touchdown tosses, and his 2-yard TD keeper gave the Pioneers a 35-33 lead with 1:55 to go in the fourth quarter. But Jersey Shore took the lead for good when Hess zoomed in from five yards out with 9:14 to go.

This was the Pioneers second state championship game in a row ending with a loss.
