There were two Pequea Valley teams that showed up to play baseball at Lampeter-Strasburg’s home field. One team that resembled the 2012 L-L League champions arrived with the ability to hit home runs, move runners along and drive in runs and make outstanding plays in the outfield. The other team gave away 6 runs with 7 errors that simply seemed to come out of nowhere. The final score was 15-to 5 in favor of the Pioneers, who came as one team to play in this Section Three-Four crossover game.
They drove in runs when they needed them with 13 hits, stole 5 bases and their pitcher Alex Brown, shut the door whenever the Braves (4-6 Sec 4, 4-8 L-L) threatened to break away early or catch the Pioneers late, by striking out 11 batters. Michael Huber hit a home run and made an outstanding catch in left field for the Braves.
Alex Brown is one of four very good starting pitchers the Pioneers (7-3 Sec 3, 11-3 L-L) have in their rotation. Sam Meck, Cameron Eck and Brett Brooks are the other three. If LS gets into the L-L League playoffs, they will have one of the best pitching staffs without question. They will be very hard to beat in a one and done elimination playoff format. Tonight every Pioneer seemed to get a hit and both Matt Wright and Cameron Eck had 3 hits and 2 RBIs.
Interviews are with winning pitcher Alex Brown and skipper Keith Martin.
