Hempfield is moving on to the semifinals in the District 3A, Class AAAA baseball playoffs after defeating Governor Mifflin 5 to 3 at War Memorial Field in Ephrata today. Under constant threats of thunderstorms, the Black Knights’ starting pitcher Alec Miller pitched a complete game improving his record to (7-1). He allowed no earned runs while striking out three. The Black Knights are the current L-L League Champs and have now won nine games in a row. Their semifinal challenger will be Red Land who defeated Cumberland Valley today 1-0. The semifinal action takes place on May 27th.
Third baseman Mike Hernandez not only made two sterling defensive plays that the video highlights, but also delivered a bases loaded 2-run double giving the Black Knights a 5-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Hempfield is the 16th seed in these Class AAAA playoffs and knocked off number one seed Reading last Monday 1-0 in the opening round of play.
