Cedar Cliff tops Hempfield for D-3 Title

The Cedar Cliff Colts have defeated the Hempfield Black Knights to win the District 3-AAAA baseball championship by a score of 11 to 5. The championship is the second in four years for Cedar Cliff. Hempfield took an early 3-0 lead but the Colts came storming back with a 9-run outburst to put the game out of reach. Colt’s starting pitcher Joe Kidd improved to 8-1 on the year while giving up 5 extra base hits and 5 runs. Early errors did not help either team.

The Black Knights (17-10) 10-game winning streak came to and end but their season hasn’t as they will play Monday in the PIAA first-round state playoffs against the District Two champion Hazelton (15-5). Hempfield’s Derek Manning hit his fourth home run of the season in the Knights’ ninth inning. Alec Miller was the starting pitcher for Hempfield.
