Revenge is sweet. Last year Hempfield beat Manheim Township 7-6 in OT in the L-L League title game. This year it was the Blue Streaks turn as junior attack Chris Augeri scored his first game-ending, game-winning goal. Timing is everything.
Augeri threw up a top-to-bottom shot from the top of the circle with 3:26 to go in overtime giving Manheim Township an exciting 7-6 win over Hempfield in the L-L League boys’ lacrosse championship game at Comet Field in Millersville.
Trailing 3-1 in the second quarter, Manheim Township sprung to life, and Augeri played a role in the comeback.
Augeri popped in a goal with a quick wrister from the left side to make it 3-2, and just 36 seconds later, Dylan Speitel flicked in a short shot from the left wing and Manheim Township tied it up at 3-all with 5:14 to go in the first half.
That was the score at the break, and the Blue Streaks were able to tie it up with those quick goals — and set up a winner-take-all second half.
