The Pequea Valley Braves softball team did something today that has never happened in the program’s history.
They won a District Softball Championship.
The Braves defeated Bermudian Springs 2-1 to capture the District 3, Class 4A softball title at Millersville University this afternoon.
The game was scoreless through 5 innings. Both starting pitchers were dealing today. Olivia Ammon for the Braves who struck out 5 and only gave up 5 hits. And Tori Murren for Bermudian Springs who held the Braves to just 2 hits and no walks.
In the top of the sixth Bermudian Springs scored a run off of a single to left to take the lead 1-0.
Earlier in the game with runners on first and second and only one out, the Braves’ Madison Clark speared a line drive and stepped on second base to double off the Bermudian Springs runner to snuff out a rally.
She also made a difficult backwards running catch in the top of the sixth to kill a Springs’ rally after they took the lead 1-0.
The bottom of the sixth was tense and exciting if were are a Braves’ fan.
Hailey Yothers led off with a line shot to the right centerfield fence for a triple.
Olivia Ammon followed with a drive to left that was misplayed and Yothers scored to tie the game.
Madison Clark came up next and drilled a double to right center and the Braves took the lead 2-1.
In the top of the seventh Ammon shut down Bermudian 1,2, 3 and the Braves had themselves a District 3, Class 4A title.
