QUEENS, NY — Travis Jankowski, a former Stony Brook Seawolves star outfielder, and graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School was signed by the New York Mets, the team announced Thursday.
Jankowski was signed to a minor-league deal with a camp invitation, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported.
Jankowski, 30, appeared in 76 games for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021 when he hit .252 with a home run, 10 RBIs, and 24 runs scored. Jankowski made his major league debut in 2015 with the San Diego Padres. He played with the Padres until 2020, when he became a member of the Cincinnati Reds.
In 1,015 career at-bats in the MLB, Jankowski has a .239 average, nine home runs, 52 RBIs, 148 runs scored, and 69 stolen bases. He was the Padres’ 44th overall pick of the 2012 MLB draft.
Jankowski is one of four Stony Brook Seawolves alumni currently in professional baseball, along with Daniel Zamora of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Mike Wilson of the Los Angeles Angels; and Nick Tropeano of the Texas Rangers.
Jankowski was a member of the Seawolves squad that made it to the 2012 College World Series bracket, according to Newsday. He was the America East player of the year, hitting .414 with 110 hits, 79 runs, and 36 stolen bases. He was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2017.
