It was inevitable that Jared Murray, who had started 3 games for Manheim Central without giving up a hit, would eventually do so.
And that day/game was today. He gave up two hits and allowed 1 run, while striking out 11 players on the way to a 6-1 complete game win.
The backstop was filled with local college coaches doing speed gun tabulations and iPhone videography, to capture what makes this young man (a junior) such a unique talent.
Here is why he is, who he is.
1. Composure. 2. Throws strikes. 3. Nothing bothers him. 4. Great defense behind him. 5. Mixes his pitches up. 6. Fastball hits 84-85MPH. 7. Drop-dead 12-6 curveball. 8. Great change up. 9. First pitch strikes. 10. Moves the ball around the strike zone.
And he threw 15 first strikes to the 24 batters he faced. Plus 60% of his pitches were strikes.
Oh and did I mention, he is left-handed.
At least that’s what I saw, along with the L-S Pioneers’ batters. And L-S is a good hitting team.
It was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Barons erupted for 5 runs.
BY the end of the game, Nolan Book and Cayde Connelly each had 2 doubles each and 2 RBI’s.
Also this baseball team has a lot of great pitching. Stay tuned, who knows how far they can go this season.
