Columbia wins first round of states

The Columbia Crimson Tide defeated Loyalsock Township 55-33 to advance to the second round of the PIAA Class 3A girls basketball championship playoffs.

Columbia was the runner up in the District 3 title game 10 days ago to Lancaster Catholic.

They forced 34 turnovers in today’s game.

They will now face District Two third-place finisher Lake-Lehman in the second round Tuesday.

Columbia is now 24-4.

After scoring 12 straight points they led at the half 26-14.

Their defense was amazing. They held Loyalsock scoreless for almost 9 minutes of play.

Kailee Soto leads the team with 43 three pointers. She is a transfer from Lancaster Mennonite. And a second team L-L League All-Star.

The Tide is also led by their twins….Brie and Brooke Droege, who have scored over 1,000 career points in their high school careers.

Their mom, Margerie Drouge also played basketball for Columbia. She helped them win the 1995 L-L League Title.

Columbia defeated Lebanon to capture this year’s L-L League title.
