LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (15-10, 2-1 CC) cleared the fence three times in the middle three innings en route to a 9-5 win over Centennial Conference (CC) foe Gettysburg (14-10, 1-2 CC) in game one of its home-and-home series with the Bullets. The three-homer performance is tied for fourth in the single-game program record books.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Spencer Berson rocketed a leadoff home run over the left field fence to tie the game. The homer is Berson’s third of the season and 11th of his career. F&M’s bats weren’t done in the frame as Bobby Falese singled and later moved around the bases to third on two consecutive groundouts. Conner Rush roped a single to left field to plate Falese – giving the Diplomats their first lead of the game.

Tommy Denlinger drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the fifth, setting up AJ Desautels to blast his first home run of the year – extending the lead to 4-1.

Gettysburg scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut F&M’s lead to 4-3. The Diplomats got the two runs back in the bottom half of the frame on one swing from Jakob Hoffman as the junior ripped a two-RBI homer for his fourth of the year. The home run is the 13th of Hoffman’s career, putting him one shy of tying the program record of 14.

Later in the inning, Rush and Pat Elliott hit back-to-back singles to set up a two-RBI double from Andrew Filippelli – pushing the F&M lead to 8-3. Filippelli later scored on a single to center field from Denlinger to give the Diplomats a six-run advantage.

Five Diplomats recorded multiple hits as Desautels, Falese, Hoffman, Rush, and Denlinger all tallied two each. Desautels, Hoffman, and Filippelli each drove in two RBI in the contest.

Bijan Anvar (2-1) picked up his second win of the year as he allowed five hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings on the mound.
