Hodge: L-L Male Athlete of the Year

Hempfield senior Aiden Hodge has been voted the Best Male Athlete in the L-L League for this past high school season by the LNP sports writers.

While at Hempfield he dominated cross country competition and high school tracks.

His junior year was filled with league and district XC titles and his senior year winnings include league titles in the 1,600 and this spring in the 800 and 1,600, plus the 1,600 district championship and the 800 PIAA gold crown this past spring.

He also holds Hempfield indoor track records in the 800, 1,000, 3,000 and 3,200 events, and he was the top scorer for the Knights’ track team in his junior and senior seasons, earning the program’s prestigious Michael Lawrence Siepietowski Memorial Award this spring.

Hodge also pocketed the L-L League Brackbill scholar-athlete award for the 2022-23 school year, and later this summer he’ll shuffle off to run cross country and track in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference for Ole Miss, which he picked over Penn State, Pitt and Syracuse during his recruiting process.

Aidan Hodge is arguably Hempfield’s most decorated distance runner. By winning this year’s league meet in the 800 and 1600, he is now a 7-time LL champion on the track. His 1600 time set a new league meet record, previously held by McCaskey standout and Syracuse runner, Nathan Henderson.

He heads into this year’s Districts and States looking to add to his hardware collection. Between cross-country and track, Aidan is already a 7-time State Medalist. He won the league and district cross country title as a junior and was named all-state as a senior. He led his cross country team to 3 league titles and a pair of District titles, missing a third by a single point. In the classroom, he is a distinguished honors’ student who has consistently taken high level courses and maintained a 4.78 weighted GPA.

He has had straight A’s his entire junior and senior year. He will be attending Ole Miss on a partial scholarship for cross country and track.

He is also this past year’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Here is the score sheet for his 2023 PIAA Gold win in the 800 meter race.
