For Lancaster native Kiki Jefferson, the wait would be a little longer, but worth it.
The Minnesota Lynx drafted Jefferson in the third round with the 31st overall pick.
Monday night was the realization of a dream for the Lancaster Catholic grad and second leading girls basketball scorer in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
In 2019, she led Lancaster Catholic to their second 4A girl’s district title in a row by pouring in 31 of her team’s 54 points, leading to a 15-point win over Bishop McDevitt.
The win was the 60th straight for the Crusaders and the team headed to the state tournament with a 28-0 record.
In 2018, she led Catholic to a 51-36 win over Berks Catholic for the PIAA State 3A championship.
Jefferson signed with James Madison in 2019 after her time as a Crusader, before transferring to Louisville for her final college season.
With 1,838 points in her time at JMU, she’s sixth on the all-time scoring list for the Dukes. Jefferson was the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and named the Sun Belt Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Jefferson transferred to Louisville for her final year of eligibility. She helped the Cardinals to the NCAA tournament while earning All-ACC Second Team honors.
Jefferson led the Cardinals in points per game in her only season in Louisville, starting 32 of 34 games. The Lynx also landed forward Alissa Pili out of Utah in the first, via a trade with Chicago.
