In the first round of the PIAA state class 6A baseball tournament, the Hempfield Black Knights defeated North Penn 12-2. North Penn is from Lansdale, PA.
The game was played on Hempfield’s baseball field.
Hempfield’s Brody Gebhard ended the game with a 2-run home run to left field giving them a 12-2 win in 6 innings as the 10-run rule was put into play.
Starting pitcher Logan Harelson went the distance for the Hempfield win.
Fresh off a District 3, Class 6A title win, Hempfield has now advanced to the elite 8 in the state.
Their record is now 21-6. Hempfield has now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hempfield will play McDowell, a team from Erie, PA in the quarterfinals Thursday June 6th.
The last three games McDowell has played have been within two runs, so don’t be surprised if it’s a close one.
