Round 2 District 3 Football 6A Playoffs:
Manheim Township entered their tilt with Hempfield on Friday with eight consecutive wins but they’ll enter their next game with nine. They blew past the Black Knights, posting a 49-7 victory. Given the Blue Streaks’ advantage in MaxPreps’ Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Black Knights are ranked 168th) , the win wasn’t entirely unexpected.
Manheim Township’s win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daryus Dixon, who picked up 165 receiving yards and three scores. Dixon was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 61 yards. PJ Myers was another key rusher, rushing for 110 yards and a pair of TDs.
Manheim Township’s victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Hempfield, they moved to 6-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Coming up, Manheim Township will head out on the road to face off against Harrisburg at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Streaks’ defense better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 37.8 points per game this season. Hempfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
