Bishop McDevitt Wins D2 Wrestling Title

YORK – A District 3 Class 2A team championship three-peat for the Bishop McDevitt wrestling team seemed a logical conclusion, even before they stepped onto the mat Saturday afternoon at Central York High School.

And, after six bouts saw a 30-0 McDevitt lead on the scoreboard, the logical conclusion became forgone.

The Crusaders had little trouble handling Berks Catholic for their third consecutive 2A team crown, posting an impressive 49-9 victory over the Saints.

Now, Bishop McDevitt will look to attain the biggest prize when the PIAA Class 2A Team Championships commence Tuesday.

“It’s not a secret what it takes,” said Bishop McDevitt head coach Mike Nauman. “It’s all year round. We’re not part-time coaches and we work hard.

“We’re going to try and bring home a state medal,” Nauman said. “I’ll tell you this, my personal opinion, if we were in 3A, we’re state champs for sure. 2A is a little tougher. We have to deal with Faith Christian (Academy) and (Bishop) McCort and we’re going to do what we’ve got to do.”
