Playoffs: Donegal wins quarterfinal game

Donegal moved onto the next round of the L-L Softball playoffs after beating Section 1 Champ Warwick 5-3.

Jordin Myers was tough in the circle for the Indians, struck out 14 Warrior batters & allowed just 3 runs, which all came in the bottom of the 3rd inning! For Warwick, Kate Shaak kept her team in it until the end, striking out 9 batters!

Donegal will face Section 4 Champ Lancaster Catholic in the L-L 🥎 Semifinals on Monday, May 11 (7pm at Ephrata’s turf complex)

Donegal extended their winning streak to seven on Friday, bumping them up to a 17-5 record.

They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Warwick Warriors 5-3. That’s the second time they’ve managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-3 back in March.

Jordin Meyers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it’s clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn’t tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nyah Gibbs was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she’s now hit at least one in each of the last three games she’s played. Lea Krow was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

As for Warwick, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Donegal since Friday.

On Warwick’s side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kate Shaak gave up four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, MaKenzie Szobocsan was cooking despite her team’s loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
