The chance for Cedar Cliff to reach for another PIAA baseball title was stripped away Monday by Hempfield.

The top-seeded Black Knights got three RBIs from Landon Charles and 6-plus workmanlike innings from Logan Dougherty to secure an 8-3 victory in the District 3 6A quarterfinal round.

Dougherty survived nine hits and struck out two over 6 2/3 innings.

Hempfield advances to the semifinals.

Hempfield, the 2020-2024 state champions, faced Cedar Cliff, the reigning state champions, seeking revenge after being eliminated by Cedar Cliff last season.
