Hempfield defeated Cumebrland Valley 15-10 in the fifth set of a PIAA Class 3A semifinal Tuesday at Hershey High School.
They will now play North Allegheny in the 3A PIAA Boys Volleyball finals Saturday June 13th, at Penn State.
Call it an underdog story all you want. Hempfield boys volleyball expected this.
Entering the playoffs, Hempfield had to deal with a lack of respect.
Despite finishing with an undefeated regular season record, the Black Knights were the second seed behind Central Dauphin.
There weren’t many players on the floor better than Hempfield’s Cam Crawford.
He was an efficient hitter Tuesday night with a team-high 20 kills and a 74 percent kill percentage.
Fellow outside Greg Agadis and opposite hitter Mason Koehler turned in strong performances as well.
Agadis landed 15 kills while Koehler finished with a 18-dig, 16-kill double-double.
Cumberland Valley’s Hayden Ackley and Keaton Myers played their hearts out in their final high school game.
Ackley finished with a game-high 43 digs and the number doesn’t do him justice.
The all-state libero kept plays alive and was the reason CV had a chance late in the match.
Hempfield hasn’t been to the PIAA championship since 2018 when it was swept by North Allegheny.
The Black Knights have a chance to avenge that loss when they face the Tigers again in the PIAA 3A championship on Saturday, June 13 at the Rec Hall at Penn State University.
