Manheim Township has won their first District 3 Field Hockey championship.
They defeated the two-time defending champ Lower Dauphin 2-1 on November 4th for the PIAA District III Class 3A field hockey title.
With 5 minutes left in the seven-on-seven, sudden victory OT matchup, Brooke Weaver hit a passover shot to Rhyme Givens who nailed the winning score.
Despite being the No. 1 seed to start the tournament, Township had but one District III championship game appearance in its history. Meanwhile, Lower Dauphin had won 16 district titles, including four of the last five, and entered with a gaudy 122-35 record.
The Blue Streaks got on the board first, however Lower Dauphine tied the game in the second half. But overtime has been good to Manheim Township all season and the Streaks punch in a nice goal four minutes into the extra session to claim the school’s first district championship.
Township won their first Lancaster-Lebanon league title two weeks ago.
Manheim Township’s record is now (22-1-1) on the season.
They had five shots on goal and five corners inn the match while Zoe Caloviras had three saves.
