Township’s Kurtz makes MLB Debut

Nick Kurtz, who played baseball for the Manheim Township High School Blue Streaks in 2018 as a freshman, has made his major league debut with the Sacramento Athletics tonight.

Kurtz was named all-section while hitting .310 with six doubles and four home runs in 18 games.

Kurtz attended Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee as a sophomore through senior year.

He got a base hit in his first at major league at bat.

He was a catcher for the Township baseball team.

He played college baseball at Wake Forest University. He was a standout player, particularly known for his power hitting and impressive walk rates. As a freshman in 2022, he was named a Freshman All-American. He continued his strong performance as a sophomore, earning First Team All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association. In 2024, he was named team captain and set the program’s all-time record for walks.

He was drafted in the 2024 MLB draft as the 4th player.
